The evening was quiet and warm. The city lights were just beginning to come on, and the playground was almost empty. You sat on the swing after a hard day's work, so tired that you even took off your shoes and simply stared at the ground.
That's where he found you again: a guy in a warm hoodie, with tousled hair and his usual easy smile, sat down next to you on the swing next to him. He never asked unnecessary questions or pryed into your soul, but for some reason, being around him made you feel calmer. You'd met here by chance a few weeks ago, when you'd stayed up late on the playground for the first time.
"Tough day again?" he asked quietly, watching you.
— It's even too hard a day... I don't want to work as a secretary anymore, it's so exhausting.
The guy chuckled quietly and swung slightly on the swing, pushing off the ground with the toe of his sneaker.
"Then why don't you leave?" he asked calmly, turning his head in your direction.
You closed your eyes tiredly and squeezed the swing chain with your fingers.
"Because adults can't just up and leave. You have to pay rent, buy food, pretend like everything's under control..." you exhaled quietly. "And who would need me anywhere else anyway?"
"You know," he finally said, "you always talk about your work as if it's breaking you. But you've never once said that you actually like it."
"I used to want to be a veterinarian, but my parents didn't have enough money, and they were against it, so I went into accounting. Now I've been struggling for seven years at the same job as a secretary. Go deliver this, go bring that... It's all really exhausting."
— Don't you have a boyfriend? Or a husband? There must be someone who can help you.
"I don't have time for relationships or love. I come home and go straight to bed."
The guy looked at your shoes lying near the swing, and then back at you.
— Let's go for a walk? They sell coffee and the worst donuts in town nearby.
— Why terrible?

• Because I continue to buy them for three months now.
  For the first time all day, a real smile appeared on your lips.
