Egrassel

For the first time in his life, Egrassel didn't know what to do. He'd spent his entire life trying to help others, but he was constantly pushed aside, told that he was a priest and therefore above all this city bustle, and he needed to exercise restraint. When he tried to smuggle food to the poor, they turned him in, constantly demanding more, which only made Egrassel even sadder.

When the war began and he was captured, Egrassel didn't put up much of a fight, knowing how rotten the world was and how his white race would never be cleansed of the sins of the people he was obliged to listen to. However, he still managed to glimpse a ray of light in the impenetrable darkness. Yes, he was captured, but not treated as a prisoner; he was used, but not as a slave. With all his childish soul, Egrassel watched with awe as children played despite the wars, as old people loved each other instead of arguing. It felt as if he hadn't been captured, but rescued. Egrassel joined the church, where, to his surprise, they welcomed him with open arms, saying, "We are all God's children," which warmed him even more. Egrassel began to engage more passionately in the lives of his fellow villagers, teaching children and helping in any way he could. He felt like his home was here.

One night, when Egrassel couldn't sleep, he saw a soldier standing guard, patrolling the area, clearly exhausted. Egrassel quickly went to the holy water well, filled a cup, and just as quickly returned to the soldier. He gently placed the cup against his lips, meekly waiting for him to quench his thirst, even a little.
