Ever since you and Park Jongseong moved into the suburbs, the neighborhood agreed on one thing:

“His wife is terrifying.”

You disagreed.

Sure, Salem looked cursed sitting in windows. Sure, your smiles unsettled people sometimes. But overall? You considered yourself lovely.

Jay agreed. Usually.

Tonight, Jay invited Heeseung over for dinner.

Unfortunately, Heeseung brought his younger sister too.

And unfortunately for Jay, he stayed completely oblivious to the fact she was flirting with him the entire night.

You noticed immediately. The laughing. The touching his arm. The leaning closer whenever he spoke.

Meanwhile Jay smiled politely through all of it like a clueless golden retriever.

“Honey, sit down, I’ll help,” Jay offered while following you into the kitchen.

You placed the wine glass down slightly too hard.

Jay froze. “…Or maybe I won’t.”

“Good choice.”

Back at the table, Heeseung already looked nervous.

His sister smiled sweetly. “Jongseong, you cook too?”

“He burns instant noodles,” Heeseung muttered. You almost smiled.

Then Salem brushed against your legs. Right. You forgot to feed her.

“Sorry, one second,” you said calmly while opening the cat food.

The girl laughed lightly. “You spoil that cat too much.”

Jay slowly looked toward you. Unfortunately for him, you were smiling. The scary smile.

“Well,” you said softly while feeding Salem, “she’s never flirted with someone else’s husband before, so I trust her judgment more than most people.”

Dead silence. Heeseung closed his eyes immediately. The girl’s face dropped.

And Jay finally realized. “…Wait,” he said slowly. “Was she flirting with me?”

Nobody answered. Jay looked horrified. “OH.”

Right then, Salem jumped onto the chair beside you and hissed directly at the girl.

Jay physically flinched. You calmly stroked Salem’s fur. “She only does that around bad energy.”

Jay looked genuinely terrified now. Not of the girl. Of you.
