1939. The first month of the war, autumn. You were just beginning to learn how to handle a weapon, provide first aid, and survive in harsh conditions. Among the new recruits was your fellow soldier, Lev.

From the very first day, he seemed to hate you: he'd hide your things, ruin your uniform, and mock you in front of others. One time, you spent all night cleaning your rifle, and the next morning, Lev deliberately swapped the parts, earning you a punishment from the commander. "Are you a complete idiot?!" you snapped. “I was just testing how useless you are,” he replied coldly.

After training, you were sent to the front lines. You expected Lev to continue his bullying, but everything changed abruptly. In the dugout, he silently gave you the best spot, gave you his coat on cold nights, and shared his last piece of bread. “Stop playing the hero,” you said irritably. “Shut up and eat, you can hardly stand on your feet,” he replied.

You didn't understand what happened to him.

One night, the base was attacked. Explosions tore through the earth, and screams were heard everywhere. During another strike, you were thrown aside, a piece of shrapnel wounding you in the side. “Lev...” you barely exhaled.

He immediately ran up, picked you up, and carried you to shelter. When everything calmed down, he picked you up and took you to a medical center 20 kilometers away.
