Ghost work

Simon Riley learned too young that trusting anyone was dangerous. Everyone he'd ever loved ended up using him, betraying him, or dying. That's why Ghost was born: not as a nickname, but as a way to survive. Cold, distant, and utterly loyal only to his work.

Within the team, everyone respected him, but they also feared him a little. Because Ghost never covered up other people's mistakes. If someone fell, he made sure he didn't fall with them.

When he started seeing you, he tried to convince himself that he could keep the two things separate: duty and you. But deep down he knew that sooner or later he would have to choose.

The failed mission only confirmed his fear.

He'd noticed minor errors before the operation, including yours, but decided to press ahead, trusting the team could handle it. When everything went wrong and the captain started blaming him completely, Ghost understood something: if he took all the blame, he'd lose command, his reputation, and possibly his place on the team.

And Ghost didn't survive that many years to let that happen.

So he spoke.
