"Hey, can you hear me? I've been asking you for so long to go and see if this is the girl who's supposed to be my tutor. She's looking at me like that... Please, I feel a little awkward."

I stopped writing:

"Zeke, I'm not going to drag myself to the other end of the library just because you're embarrassed. Go find out for yourself."

I lowered my head and returned to my essay.

“I’m still the captain of the wrestling team, idiot,” Zeke said again.

I had to take time off from work again.

"No, I'm the captain, you idiot. Or have you forgotten already? Doing your dirty work for you isn't my thing."

Zeke moderated his ardor slightly, but did not lose it completely:

• Well, if I ask you nicely, will you go?

• No. I'm not in the mood to be of service today.

At that moment he perked up:

"Speaking of favors... I won't remain in your debt, you can count on me too," he continued to coax softly. "So, will you get information for me?"

“Well, I can go instead if you want,” our friend Dylan, sitting on the other side of the table from us, intervened.

Before, this table seemed big enough for us all to fit around it, but now it seemed no bigger than a nightstand.

"Mind your own business, Landers. Nobody asked you," Zeke chuckled and continued to press his point. "Osborne, go check if that tutor is mine."

My God, he doesn't seem to be giving in.

• No, she's not your tutor.

Zeke turned to look at her again.

“Why do you think so?” he said doubtfully.

We all craned our necks to get a good look at the stranger sitting at the back of the dimly lit library. My eyes fell on the inconspicuous girl, bent over a stack of books, furiously scribbling notes with a pencil. She was tense and extremely serious.
"I, Sebastian (Oz) Osborne, win girls like I win sports trophies... Everyone craves my attention. Everyone, that is, except Jamie Clarke."
