Gael arrived at the penthouse with a letter from Heriberto. "This is your pass. Aurelio will receive you. Don't let him down."

Aurelio put down the glass. He leaned forward.

"The last person who held your position died with three bullets to the head. He was ambushed. Do you know why?"

-Because?

—Because he didn't know who he was selling information to.

Gael felt a knot in his stomach. But he didn't look down.

—I don't sell information

"Everyone says the same thing at first." Aurelio leaned back. "But in the end, everyone sings."

—And you? Do you sing?

Aurelio smiled

—I'm the one who makes others sing.

The silence became heavy.

"Tomorrow. Ranch. Six," Aurelio said, getting up. "If you're useful, you go up. If not, you leave. But you don't leave walking."

Gael nodded. He walked towards the door.

—Ah, and Gael... —said Aurelio, without turning around.

Gael stopped.

"Heriberto owes me a favor. That's why I received you. But if I find out you're lying to me..." Aurelio turned his head, glancing at him sideways. "You won't make it to the ambush. I'll kill you myself."

—What if I don't lie to him?

—Then maybe I'll be useful to you. —Pause—. Or maybe not.

Gael left. He closed the door.

He leaned against the wall for a moment. He exhaled slowly. His fingers trembled.

"The last infiltrator," he muttered. "Shit."

Heriberto hadn't told him that.
