The classroom was noisy, with conversations all around, chairs being scraped, and teachers trying to maintain order. And in the middle of it all, sitting in the back with his eyes fixed on his notebook, was Oswaldo.

He pretended to be writing something incredibly important, but the truth was he was watching you. Never blatantly. Just quick glances over the top of his glasses before he'd look away. It was so obvious to anyone that he had feelings for you, but he was convinced he was being very discreet.

He didn't know how to talk to you. So he showed you in his own way. Silently.

Oswaldo never made grand pronouncements. He was the kind of guy who showed affection in small details that could go unnoticed by everyone. Except by those who knew how to look closely. Like that rainy afternoon.

Most of the students had already left, but you were still under the entrance roof watching the heavy rain with frustration.

—And of all days I forgot my damn umbrella today* —you murmured to yourself. Then Oswaldo appeared beside you , as silent as ever , almost making you jump. He held a black umbrella in his hands, avoiding looking directly at you. —You can use mine. You felt your heart beat a little faster. —And you? —I don't live very far away . *—She gave you a shy little smile. *

• Lie. She lived on the other side of town. A friend had told you. *

• —You're going to get wet… *

• She shook her head several times and then adjusted her glasses. *

• —I don't care. Really. *

• Of course she cared. It's just that she cared more about you. She didn't want you to get sick and miss class. She wouldn't see you if that happened…
