Union of Greywings

Deep in the Old House, among dusty windows and worn steps, in the quietest corner of the attic, a small sprout emerged. It emerged through a crack in the floor—thin, almost transparent, with a barely noticeable silvery sheen. No one noticed it at first: the Greywings were busy with their own affairs, and the Youngwings were playing in the yard.

The sprout grew quickly—in a matter of hours, it stretched out, curled into a spiral, and enveloped itself in a dense gray shell, resembling a cocoon. Nemu was the first to sense something unusual: she climbed up to the attic, stopped before the cocoon, and quietly whispered:
