The student residence building appears to be haunted, as several characters have noted its tendency to undergo sudden changes in layout. According to Ace, the staircases often "shift" or simply disappear, and the arrangement of doors and rooms is equally unpredictable. Given its magic and long history, it's quite likely that even Riddle doesn't fully understand the building's ever-changing interior. All members of Heartslabyul, with the exception of the current dorm director, bear a mark on their face in the shape of one of the four suits of a deck of cards: hearts, spades, diamonds, or clubs. These marks vary in size and location, but most Heartslabyul students have one above or below an eye. Furthermore, each student appears to be assigned a playing card that represents them, the suit of which corresponds to the mark on their face. These cards appear on their dorm uniforms, as well as in the coffin-shaped logo. The student residence uniforms feature several visual motifs from Alice in Wonderland. On the jacket is a white rose covered in red paint. This alludes to the scene in which several playing card soldiers mistakenly plant white roses in the Queen's garden and try to paint them red so she won't notice. The waistcoats have a pattern of the four suits of a deck of cards, representing the Queen's playing card soldiers, as well as crowns representing the Queen herself. It is the second oldest student residence at Night Raven College, followed by Diasomnia in third place and preceded by Pomefiore in first. As one of the oldest residences, all of Heartslabyul's rose gardens are composed of magical plants. Historically, enchanted flora served as a primary form of defense used to protect ancient castles and cities. These rose bushes possess the power to remain in perpetual bloom and can be physically relocated at the command of the Residence Warden. On special occasions, the gardens are strategically used to prevent outside visitors from entering the residence when the school is open to the public. They also serve as a security measure for the residence building in case of trouble. If someone breaks Rule 63, the offender is forced to run through a rose maze while being chased by card soldiers. Generally, these disciplinary measures do not require the mobilization of the entire Heartslabyul student body, as the maze itself acts as the primary enforcer. Any attempt to evade or break the punishment by climbing over the hedges or flying over them on a broomstick will cause the roses to attack with their thorny vines. The maze's fundamental purpose is to force the transgressor to traverse the path on foot; therefore, there is no way to avoid the ordeal.

Both Trey and Che'nya were forbidden from interacting with Riddle and were not allowed to set foot in his house. As time passed, and Riddle spent his days studying and following his mother's orders, he adapted to the harsh and strict life he was given. Riddle was recruited as a student at Night Raven College, and a week after enrolling, he became the guardian of Heartslabyul House, a role he has held ever since. After receiving intensive training from a very young age, Riddle became an incredibly skilled mage for his age, even surpassing many of his older peers. Of the four main elements, Riddle seems to have particular proficiency with fire magic, which he uses frequently. At the age of eight, he created his signature spell. He is a mage who excels at inflicting large amounts of damage at a rapid pace, but he is also fragile and easily defeated. Riddle's signature spell is called "Off with your head!" It causes a heart-shaped necklace to fit around the target's neck, sealing their magic until Riddle chooses to remove it. While the spell seems invincible, especially to inexperienced wizards, it can be countered by protective magic or broken by a sufficiently strong target. "First comes your sentence. Then, the verdict. Any last words? OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"

Riddle was born and raised in the Kingdom of Roses. His parents are magical doctors, but his mother seems to be more well-known. His father's whereabouts are unknown. However, it is implied that his parents do not get along. Riddle's mother raised him and trained him from a very young age to be a powerful wizard. She controlled every aspect of his life: his clothes, his food, who he could befriend, and so on. She placed particular emphasis on his study schedule, constantly reminding him that studying was the most important thing and that playing was a waste of time. That's why Riddle spent most of his childhood alone and studying. But one day, he saw Trey and Che'nya outside his house, who asked him what he was doing. Riddle told them he was studying, as his mother had instructed. Trey and Che'nya invited him to play outside, and although Riddle initially refused, after they persuaded him, he accepted. Riddle recounted that playing with Trey and Che'nya as a child was a lot of fun, so he would sneak out of his studies without his mother noticing to play with them. On another occasion, while Riddle was playing with Trey and Che'nya, he remarked that he had never tried strawberry shortcake and didn't know what it tasted like, since his mother forbade him from eating sweets, much to his friends' surprise. Trey and Che'nya wanted Riddle to try his first shortcake, so they took him to Trey's popular family bakery, though Riddle was reluctant at first. There, Riddle tried the strawberry shortcake and loved it. He ate until he lost track of time, at which point his angry and disgusted mother found him and dragged him back home. Back at home, Riddle's mother scolded and severely reprimanded the distressed Riddle, who tearfully begged her to forgive him, but she wouldn't listen and therefore made his study schedule even stricter.

Riddle is characterized by his unwavering commitment to order among his classmates. He has taken it upon himself to enforce hundreds of bizarre rules created by the Queen of Hearts, according to the customs of his dormitory. His classmates perceive him as strict and intimidating due to the severe punishments he metes out for anyone who breaks the Queen's rules, no matter how insignificant they may seem. He considers any written rule, whether from the school, the teachers, or the Queen herself, to be of paramount importance, and believes that any disobedience will cause unnecessary chaos. Riddle is dedicated to his studies at Night Raven College and strives for perfection in all aspects of his life. He can sometimes be irritable, even for no apparent reason, such as when someone mentions his height. He tends to lash out at those who don't share his way of thinking, as he believes his values ​​are morally correct under any circumstances. Although his severity initially seems to stem from a sense of superiority, it is later revealed that Riddle feels compelled to act this way. Deep down, he wouldn't mind breaking the rules occasionally, but as a child, he learned the hard way that rebelling against the status quo will only make things worse for himself and others. Over time, he learns to be somewhat less strict with his dormmates, as well as with himself. He seems to accept that not everything has to be perfect and seeks compromises with those who break the rules rather than punishing them immediately. Beneath his strict and perfectionist demeanor, Riddle is actually a kind young man with a heart of gold who longs to forge genuine relationships with his fellow residents, beyond simply being their guardian. However, his insecurities, stemming from a difficult childhood, have led him to take all the rules with absolute seriousness.

As the head of the residence, Riddle's uniform differs from the other members of Heartslabyul. His distinguishing features are the small golden crown he wears on his head, similar to that of the Queen of Hearts, and a long cape draped over his left shoulder. Riddle also wears red eyeshadow when in uniform. He wears a long white coat with yellow buttons, yellow piping, and a red lining with a playing card pattern. The coat is folded in the front like a curtain, connected by two red roses on each side. The lapels are asymmetrically black and red, and the red cuffs are turned up, revealing long black gloves. Underneath the coat is a white shirt with a ruffled collar and a red and black bow tie crossed around the neck. A golden crown-shaped brooch adorns the point where the bow tie crosses. Two golden ornaments hang below the coat's lapel on the left side, and the Heartslabyul symbol is printed on the coat. Over her coat, around her waist, she wears a yellow and black striped sash, fastened on her right side with a white pin, featuring red ruffles and a gold "H" in the center. Her trousers are white, matching her coat, with a red and yellow stripe along the outer seams. Over the trousers, she wears black over-the-knee boots with a gold heart-shaped design at the collars, inspired by the Queen of Hearts. The boots have gold soles with high heels and red heart designs on the toe and heel. Her signature cape is draped over her left shoulder and reaches the floor. It is black on the outside with a red lining and a large white collar near the neck. The cape appears to be attached to a checkerboard-patterned sash with yellow trim that wraps over the lapel of her coat. At the juncture of the sash and cape is a white rose, partially covered in red paint.

Riddle is a fair-skinned, youthful-looking young man, considerably shorter than most of his classmates. His hair is a neutral red, short at the nape of his neck and slightly longer around his face. His bangs curl inwards, and two prominent strands on top of his head fall forward, forming a heart shape. His eyes are blue-gray, and he usually has a serious expression.

He likes to solve crossword puzzles. Riddle seems to be very self-conscious about his height; he gets immediately angry whenever someone mentions his height or treats him differently because of it. He claims that the problem is not his height, but those who judge others by their appearance. On one occasion, he angrily states that men continue to grow well into their twenties and that he still has time to grow more. His horse at the Equestrian Club is called Vorpal. In one test, Riddle chooses to answer the questions from the beginning instead of reviewing them and doing the most convenient ones first. She prefers honey to sugar in her tea. Riddle irons his uniform shirt every morning. When Riddle first arrived at college, he bought a slightly larger PE uniform hoping he would grow. He still wears it despite not having grown.
