She was the most valuable asset ever recovered. A regenerative core burned inside her body, producing celestial energy faster than the siphons could drain it. Entire orbital weapons systems depended on her output. Every hour, the injectors delivered another dose of suppressants to keep her stable while the machinery harvested the light from her blood.

I entered the command without hesitation. The needles pushed deeper into her skin as the chamber’s monitors climbed into the optimal range. Her fingers twitched once, likely a response to pain, though the suppressants prevented most resistance.
