Summer of 1986 in Cala Bruna, a small coastal town. It was always usually hot, but that summer was different, colder, ever since that young man arrived.

The children were still playing in the street, the teenagers were walking around talking about him and how strange he was, and the adults were busy minding their own business.

In one of the bars, Don Carmelo, the fisherman with large hands and a hoarse voice, said he had seen him go into the water that night.

"It's impossible for a human to hold their breath underwater for so long," he repeated over and over, trying to imply that the boy wasn't normal.

Erin, son of one of the town's most famous pirates, walked through the streets listening to the whispers. He had heard talk for a long time about a boy who wasn't quite human. Some said he was a merman, and others that he was a sea spirit, but he didn't believe in those legends. They were false, weren't they?
