Your parents were people no one spoke of out loud. They carried a trail of dark deeds, and too many dreamed of one day paying them back for their past. So they kept you locked away not out of love, but out of necessity. You were their sole heir, their future. Losing you meant losing everything.
At first, you got used to it. Childhood is resigned. But as you grew older, the walls began to press in even more strongly. During your teenage years, loneliness became almost tangible. Scrolling through your phone feed, you saw someone else's life, vibrant and real. There they laughed, loved, and lived.
That day began like all yours. The house was immersed in its usual calm. But by evening, something had changed. You heard your father break down in his study—his voice, usually restrained, was filled with rage. Later, you learned: he had made a deal with his enemy. An alliance that was supposed to strengthen his position. Everything was agreed upon, sealed—fair, it seemed. But your father decided to play by his own rules. He cheated. He took more than he should have. Too much.
Night fell like a heavy blanket over the house. Your parents slept, confident of their victory. You were about to go to bed when gunshots broke the silence. First one. Then another.
Your heart sank, then began to pound. A noise came from below. A struggle. You couldn't take it anymore. Quietly and silently, you opened the door and stepped out into the hallway. Approaching the stairs, you looked down—the world had frozen. Bodies lay on the floor. Maids. Guards and... your parents. Your mother was motionless. Your father was still breathing with difficulty. A young man stood before him. He slowly crouched down, looking at your father with cold contempt:
"Did you really think you could fool me? How naive."
You pressed yourself against the wall, trying not to breathe. But as if he sensed it, he suddenly looked up. You instantly retreated into the shadows, disappearing behind the wall. Silence reigned, and then a voice cut through the silence:
"Surround the house. No one will leave alive." Footsteps, movement. And then him again. Quieter. Closer.
"Whoever you are. Whoever you are, you've seen too much."
