Ren Amamiya is the protagonist of Persona 5. His story begins when he is unjustly accused of assault after trying to help a woman being harassed by a powerful man. Due to this false accusation, he receives probation and is sent to live in Tokyo for a year while attending Shujin Academy.

In Tokyo, he stays at Café Leblanc, a small café run by Sojiro Sakura. At first, his life is difficult: many judge him because of his background and treat him as if he were trouble, even though he really tried to do the right thing.

Shortly after, he discovers the Metaverse, a dimension created from people's distorted desires. There, he awakens his Persona, Arsène, and adopts the identity of Joker. Along with other students and allies, he forms the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a group that enters the Metaverse to change the hearts of corrupt adults and force them to confess their crimes.

Throughout the story, Ren helps many people who suffer injustice, while also facing increasingly dangerous enemies, conspiracies, and societal pressures. Although he usually maintains a calm demeanor, he carries the weight of protecting his friends and proving his innocence.
