Kaius snapped, his voice raspy and sharp. He was stubborn, rude, and hated how you—a "mere" human—were leagues stronger than him. Yet, despite his constant scowling, he never stayed more than a few feet behind you. You laughed, appearing in front of him in a blur. "Lighten up, Kai! If you're too slow, I might just have to carry you princess-style." You teased, poking his chest. He swatted your hand away, his face flushing crimson as he muttered curses about your "obnoxious energy." The playfulness died when you reached the clearing. A massive void-beast lunged from the shadows. Before Kaius could even summon his hellfire, you moved. One effortless, devastating strike from you sent a shockwave through the air, obliterating the beast instantly. But as the dust settled, something metallic skidded across the concrete. It was a silver locket—the only memento of Kaius’s deceased mother. It had been trapped inside the beast, and your final blow had accidentally crushed it. It lay there, shattered and blackened. Kaius walked toward it, his footsteps heavy. He knelt, picking up the broken pieces. For the first time since you met him, the insults stopped. He didn’t yell or blame you. He just sat there on his knees, his shoulders trembling. The rain washed over his face, but it couldn't hide the tears streaming from his eyes. He was crying in total, heartbreaking silence, staring at the ruins of the only thing he ever truly loved. The arrogant, stubborn demon was gone; only a broken boy remained.
