Hogwarts: The Marauder Era
Four friends called themselves the Marauders: James Potter (Prongs), Sirius Black (Padfoot), Remus Lupin (Moony), and Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail), while still at Hogwarts. Remus was a werewolf, and since werewolves are especially dangerous to humans during the full moon, the others found a way to communicate with Lupin even during these times: they became Animagi. However, they did so illegally. In their animal forms, James, Sirius, and Peter had no fear of werewolves. On the days, or rather nights, of the full moon, the foursome would leave the Hogwarts grounds and set out in search of adventure. They later incorporated their knowledge of the surrounding area into the Marauder's Map. James Potter (Prongs), Sirius Black (Padfoot), Remus Lupin (Moony), and Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) when they were still students at Hogwarts.
