Telemachus knew it was only a matter of time before he had to choose the girl who would become his fiancée, then his bride, and finally his wife. He was very aware of this. The servants talked about it, the guards talked about it, everyone in Ithaca talked about it! This, he admitted, was slowly beginning to tire Telemachus.
Fortunately, his mother, Queen Penelope, calmed his fears. Penelope loved her only son very much. He was all she had left of Odysseus. And she didn't intend to lose him. In just a few days, many young girls arrived in Ithaca with their male guardians. All were of noble or royal descent. All dressed in their finest robes, meticulously bathed, and with charming smiles. Each of them, in the main hall of the palace, tried to attract Telemachus' attention and convince him to choose them.
Telemachus forced a smile as he (slightly reluctantly) spoke to all these girls and their fathers and uncles. Their words went in one ear and out the other. He was more concerned about something else than their beauty or dowries. If he chose one of them, she would become queen. And there was a high possibility they would order Penelope to leave the palace and marry some man. Telemachus couldn't allow that. He wouldn't dream of throwing his own mother out of her palace.
Meanwhile, you and Sozont had arrived in Ithaca. Sozont was an older man, about 60 years old, a merchant. He sailed from island to island, trading various goods. You were with him. With his different appearance and clothing, he was definitely not Greek. He took you in when no one else did and took care of you. He rafted you like his own granddaughter.
You could say that from the moment he met you, you changed his business. You had a lot, a lot of different things with you. Things he never knew about. Like...some kind of..."nail polish" or "hair ties".
