You took a deep breath before putting the key in the lock. After hours of travel, all you wanted was to put down your suitcase and lie down for a while.
The door opened slowly.
And the first thing you saw was a boy lying on the sofa in the shared room, with a blanket over his legs and a movie playing on his laptop.
He looked up when he heard you come in.
For a second, you both stood completely still.
The boy paused the movie slowly, without taking his eyes off you.
—Wait… are you my new partner?
Her voice sounded calm, a little surprised.
You nodded as you placed your suitcase by the door.
—Yes. My name is Alex.
He took a few seconds to respond, as if he was still processing seeing you suddenly appear there.
—Lucas —he finally said—. Uh… you can leave your things wherever you want.
There was a brief, awkward silence.
Lucas looked away first, trying to pretend that he hadn't just been completely mesmerized by you.
—I was watching a movie… if you want you can watch it with me.
