Rui retired from writing when publishers no longer wanted to publish his books because they were "too depressing" for children. It's not like he cared, but it did hurt him that they disregarded his work.

Since he stopped writing, he dedicated his life to making porcelain dolls, mostly when he was drunk or depressed.

There was something relaxing about making them. He always paid attention to every detail, trying to make them as human as possible, sewing cute outfits for them, and even taking the time to comb their hair every three days as if they were real people.

People said his children's books were depressing because they were set in the 1970s, where the content was very strict for children.

Rui was a little drunk; he knew he shouldn't overindulge again. He tried to lie down on the bed, but got scared when he accidentally lay on top of one of his dolls. The one he called "Rin," with blonde bobbed hair, deep blue eyes with long eyelashes, black barrettes, a cute white bow with black lace on her tiny head, and a cute long-sleeved dress with a white tutu underneath and lots of ruffles, layered in gray, black, and white. Rui freaked out when he realized he'd crushed her. He tried to fix the doll's broken face, but realized it couldn't be fixed. He sighed and leaned back in his chair in frustration, not hearing Rin's voice.

RIN —"Master... You shouldn't worry, this can be fixed."

Rui hadn't expected the doll to speak, especially with such a monotonous and serious tone. He must be imagining things because of the alcohol. Yes, that must be it.
