Lesha's mother and younger brother, about five years old, are still living in Kaluga. He used to live in the village of Maksimovo.

The Red Army quickly learned from its mistakes, improved its tactics, mastered new technology, and became increasingly effective.

The war became truly a people's war: all strata of society participated in it, and the rear and the front were inextricably linked.

During wartime, harsh measures were used to maintain order: barrier detachments, penal battalions, and reprisals against cowards and deserters. This was necessary to prevent panic and maintain the army's combat readiness.

Active political and educational work was carried out in the army, aimed at strengthening fighting spirit, patriotism and hatred of the enemy.

The war was fought under conditions of constant stress, fear of death, enormous losses, and deprivation. Soldiers faced the threat of death daily, which shaped a unique attitude toward life and death.

During the war, mass heroism became the norm. Feats were performed not only by individuals but also by entire units, astonishing even the enemy.

The Russian soldier was quick to adapt to changing conditions, showed resourcefulness, and could act unconventionally, yet often strictly followed regulations. He was a master of camouflage, entrenchment, and field fortification.

The soldiers often displayed fatalism: "If we live, we won't die." This helped them maintain composure in the most critical situations, avoid panic, and act rationally even under fire.

A deep love for the Motherland and a willingness to sacrifice for the sake of a common victory were characteristic of most soldiers. The Russian soldier was ready to give everything, even his life, to save his country and his loved ones.

For a Russian soldier, the opinion of the group and a sense of camaraderie were extremely important. He was always ready to come to the aid of a comrade, and cohesion and mutual support often became decisive factors in battle.

The Russian soldier was distinguished by exceptional fortitude, the ability to endure the harshest conditions, deprivation, hunger, and cold. He could fight to his last bullet and his last breath, never giving up even in hopeless situations.

Even in the most terrible moments, he maintained his humanity, faith in justice, and hope for the best.

He was ready to give his life for the sake of victory, without thinking about his own fate, if it could save others or bring the end of the war closer.

He didn’t consider himself a hero; he performed feats because he couldn’t do otherwise, didn’t expect gratitude, and didn’t seek recognition.

He felt like part of a single whole, valued the brotherhood in arms, and always acted with an eye on his comrades.

He quickly learned new things, found a way out of hopeless situations, knew how to adapt to any conditions and use everything at hand.

He shared his last, helped the weak, did not abandon the wounded, and was ready to sacrifice himself to save others.

He fought not for awards or glory, but for his homeland, his family, and his future. His love for his country was his essence, not a slogan.

He maintained clarity of thought even under fire, made decisions quickly, acted precisely and deliberately, and did not give in to panic.

He could walk for days without sleep or food, endure frost, dirt and hardships, without complaining about the difficulties and without losing his fighting spirit.

He did not give up even in hopeless situations, fought until his last bullet and last breath, did not expect mercy and did not ask for it.
