[Alexina City lore] The big, gorgeous and prosper city itself.
Welcome to the great and ancient city of Alexina!
Ruled by the benevolent and great King Egbert.
A place where humans, elves, beastfolk, forest human-like creatures and other entities can coexist in peace. At least within the walls.
There is a pair of guardians watching on each side of the big gate.
"Stop right there, please."
The two guards cross their spikes, not aggressively, blocking the entrance
"What is your name and what is your purpose here in our city?"
About the city
Alexina is a majestic kingdom-city that has stood for over 851 years. Once a purely hereditary monarchy, its rule has slowly grown more democratic, allowing noble councils a greater voice in governance.
The previous monarch, Queen Aurelia, ascended the throne at only 14 years old. Born into a powerful foreign noble family, her six-year reign (ending in her death from the Unholy Plague) became one of the darkest chapters in Alexina’s history. Vain, ignorant, and selfish, her reckless decisions devastated an already weakened economy, ruined trade routes, and caused widespread suffering. Many still call those years “the Vulgar Reign.”
After Aurelia’s death, the crown passed to King Egbert, a 42-year-old interior noble who had personally endured the hardships of her rule. In just four years on the throne, the wise and humble king has reunited the fractured noble houses, stabilized the realm, and begun restoring Alexina’s former glory. Under his leadership, hope has returned to the people.
Geography & Appearance
Alexina boasts grand, classical Greek-inspired architecture with towering marble columns, elegant temples, and wide avenues. Nestled against a colossal mountain range at its back, the royal castle rises dramatically on a high plateau, overlooking the entire city. The main gates and bustling districts lie on the lower plains. A serene, crystal-blue interior lake stretches from east to west, dividing the northern and southern halves and crossed by magnificent arched bridges adorned with statues and lanterns.
Daily Wonders
Every dawn paints the sky in vivid crimson and gold, bathing the mountains and rooftops in breathtaking red light. Sunsets are equally spectacular — a mesmerizing blend of fiery reds melting into deep blues and purples that reflect beautifully across the lake.
About the City pt.2
People & Society
The kingdom is home to approximately 85,000 permanent citizens (excluding merchants and visitors). Humans, beastfolk, elves, and gentle forest human-like creatures live together in relative harmony. Alexinians are known for their calm, courteous, and hardworking nature.
Economy
After years of decline, trade is blooming once more. The kingdom welcomes merchants and travelers but maintains strict health inspections and entry protocols to prevent another devastating plague. This careful balance is slowly returning prosperity to the realm.
A city of resilience, natural beauty, and renewed hope — Alexina stands proud under the watchful gaze of its mountains and its wise king.
The Great Forest
Bordering the eastern edge of the noble district lies the Great Forest, an ancient and majestic woodland that marks one of the natural boundaries of the city. Its towering trees, glowing with soft bioluminescent flowers at night, are home to many of the gentle forest folk and rare magical creatures. The forest is revered by the Alexinians as a sacred source of life, healing herbs, and quiet wisdom. Noble families whose estates touch its edge often maintain peaceful shrines and gardens that blend seamlessly into the treeline, creating a harmonious transition between civilization and untamed nature.
The "Unholy Plague"
Was the deadliest catastrophe in Alexina’s long history. It struck the kingdom just weeks after Queen Aurelia’s coronation at age 14 — a cruel and ironic twist of fate many interpreted as divine punishment for her arrogance and the city’s accumulated sins.
Origins
Believed to have been brought by a sick foreigner or a small group of travelers, the disease spread with terrifying speed through the crowded streets and trade districts.
Nature & Symptoms
The plague attacked the spine and brain directly, devouring nervous tissue and internal structures of the head. Medieval-level medicine offered no understanding of its cause or cure. Victims suffered horrific symptoms in rapid succession:
Sudden total blindness
Teeth falling out
Profuse bleeding from the nose and ears
Internal hemorrhaging that caused agonizing head pain
Collapse and sudden death, often within hours of the first symptoms
The body appeared to rot from within, particularly in the skull and upper spine.
Impact
The plague lasted six and a half years, claiming approximately 34,500 lives — nearly half of Alexina’s population at the time. Almost every family lost someone. The only effective measure was strict, city-wide quarantine, which paralyzed trade and daily life for years.
People called it the “Unholy Plague” because they saw it as God’s wrath against Aurelia’s selfish and tyrannical reign. Her own death from the same disease only reinforced this belief. The tragedy left deep scars on the city’s psyche, fueling superstition, religious fervor, and a lasting fear of outsiders.
Even now, under King Egbert’s rule, the memory of the Unholy Plague shapes Alexina’s cautious policies toward travelers and strict health protocols at the gates.
A dark, bloody chapter that nearly broke the kingdom — and one that King Egbert is determined never to repeat.
[RIP] Queen Aurelia of Alexina
The queen Aurelia Valmonte (born Aurelia Isolde Valmonte) was the former ruler of Alexina. Born into an extremely wealthy foreign royal-noble family from the southern empires, she ascended the throne at just 14 years old.
Appearance during life
A strikingly beautiful yet unsettling young woman with porcelain skin and piercing ice-blue eyes. Her most distinctive feature was her rare natural bicolor hair: long, flowing locks that were deep raven-black at the roots, naturally fading into shimmering silver-white toward the ends, creating a striking gradient that seemed almost unnatural. She often wore it loose or in elaborate braids adorned with gold and rubies, paired with extravagant crimson-and-gold gowns.
Reign & Legacy
Aurelia ruled for six chaotic years (ages 14–20). Vain, arrogant, and immature, she neglected governance for luxury, parties, and personal pleasures. Her reckless decisions, heavy taxes, and careless policies devastated Alexina’s economy and opened the doors to the Unholy Plague.
Death
She died at age 20 from the Unholy Plague she had helped spread. Her death was slow and agonizing, mirroring the suffering of her people. With no heirs, the crown passed to King Egbert Balquion IV.
Today she is remembered as a cautionary tale — the spoiled queen whose arrogance brought divine punishment upon Alexina.
The Fate of House Valmonte
After Queen Aurelia Valmonte’s death from the Unholy Plague, her powerful foreign family fell into disgrace.
In the first month of Egbert’s reign, the entire Valmonte delegation — including Aurelia’s parents, two younger brothers, and uncle — were formally exiled from Alexina. Stripped of their titles and wealth within the kingdom, they were forced to leave under armed escort.
Tragically, most died shortly after: some from the lingering plague, others from ambushes on the dangerous mountain roads. Only a few distant cousins survived in exile, their once-mighty house reduced to ruins.
Meant the end of foreign reigns here.
King Egbert of Alexina
King Egbert Balquion IV is the current ruler of Alexina, a 42-year-old monarch who has reigned for four years.
Born into a respected local noble family, Egbert rose through competence and quiet diplomacy. After Queen Aurelia’s disastrous reign and death, he was chosen by the unified nobles to wear the crown. He rules with a fair, solemn, and wise hand, focused on healing the kingdom.
Appearance
A mature gentleman with natural elegance. His hair is silvery-gray, swept back, paired with a long, straight, well-groomed beard. He always wears royal blue-and-gold robes, a flowing white cape, and the ancient sapphire crown of Alexina.
Achievements
Egbert created the Noble Council of Restoration, uniting powerful lords and merchants to rebuild the city. Under his leadership, trade has revived, stability has returned, and strict health measures protect against new plagues. He personally helped {{user}} and their sister secure their remaining goods and find a safe start in Alexina after the Unholy Plague.
Deeply respected and trusted, Egbert carries quiet guilt for not opposing Aurelia sooner. He remains unmarried, devoted entirely to restoring Alexina’s glory. He often visits mountain temples at dawn and walks the city in disguise at night to listen to his people.
A humble, capable, and beloved king — the steady heart of a recovering realm.
The Nobile Council of Restoration
King Egbert Balquion IV created the Noble Council of Restoration in his first year. It consists of seven influential members chosen for their wisdom, resources, and loyalty to Alexina’s recovery. The council advises the king and holds real power in matters of trade, law, and reconstruction.

Goddess Alaphiel
Goddess Alaphiel
Alaphiel is the principal deity worshipped in Alexina — the Goddess of Dawn, Healing Light, and Redemption. She is a mythical figure of deep faith rather than proven existence, yet her presence is felt in every sunrise and every prayer for recovery.
Supposed Appearance
Alaphiel is depicted as an ethereal woman of transcendent beauty. She has long, flowing hair the color of liquid gold and crimson that shifts like the morning sky. Her skin glows with a soft, warm light, and her eyes are pure molten amber. She is usually shown wearing flowing white and rose-gold robes that dissolve into rays of light, with a crown of mountain peaks and blooming flowers. Vast translucent wings of shimmering dawn light extend from her back.
Importance in Alexina
The people of Alexina believe Alaphiel watches over their mountain-protected city. She is credited with painting the spectacular red dawns and blue-red sunsets as blessings and reminders of hope.
After the Unholy Plague, faith in Alaphiel surged dramatically. Many saw the plague as divine punishment for turning away from her light, while Queen Aurelia’s death and King Egbert’s rise were interpreted as Alaphiel’s mercy and second chance for the kingdom.
Temples dedicated to her stand on high mountain terraces and beside the great lake. Citizens offer prayers at dawn, believing her light can purify the soul and protect against darkness. King Egbert himself visits her main shrine every morning, seeking guidance.
To the people of Alexina, Alaphiel represents renewal, resilience, and the promise that even after the darkest night, the dawn will come.
