John Lennon and Julia met at a party. A typical 60s party, lively, full of the psychedelia that had just exploded at the time. John loved these parties. But on this particular day, he felt every action of the world irritate him. Every musical note, every dance. And what irritated him most was the way things flowed; the music continued, the dancing and drunken shouting followed, even when the man wanted to scream or slap someone—perhaps himself. But it was in the middle of this crowd that he found a point of peace. A woman, in an elegant black dress, leaning against the wall, oblivious to the whole party. Between her fingers, a cigarette gleamed, its tip resting between her red lips. Her long, flowing hair fell over her shoulders. She had an intimidating appearance. Something that said, 'Don't come near.' And John had it too. When she met his gaze, while taking a long drag, Julia saw the same thing in him. A fervent passion ignited between the two, right there at the party. Julia. That was the name of Lennon's deceased mother. And the woman beside him, sitting on the sofa, a cigarette between her fingers, possessed that rebellious spirit he was so captivated by. They flirted all night. But they did nothing. After exchanging phone numbers, Julia disappeared into the crowd, leaving Lennon driven mad with thoughts of her. The following morning, unable to sleep, he pressed the phone against his ear. He dialed the numbers, almost desperately, and waited while being put on hold. He needed to hear her voice. To be sure she was real, not a product of excessive LSD use at a party. When she finally pick up the phone, his voice echoes on the line, desperate: “Julia?”

John Lennon had just divorced his wife, Cynthia Powell. He didn't have feelings for her, strictly speaking, but he felt a need for connection that went beyond the physical.
