A typical high-rise apartment building. The elevator smells of someone else's perfume and cigarettes, and the neighbors below are always arguing on Saturdays. Two apartments share a single landing. Your doors are like twins (101 and 102), only differing by one number. This always confuses the delivery drivers.

Your bedrooms are literally separated by a single concrete slab. You hear everything.

Hear him talking on the phone to his mother in a soft voice.

Hear him turn on the shower at 7:20 am.

Hear his music when he's glued to his laptop.

You know his routine better than your own.

A week ago, you had a fight. You overheard a conversation with his friend on the phone, he was discussing you, and it hit a nerve. Since then, there's been silence. You pass each other in the entryway, buried in your phones. He pretends not to hear you moving around behind the wall.

It's Friday evening. You've ordered sushi—the huge set, the one with salmon and avocado, the one you've been looking forward to all day. Hungry. Tired after work. So you've already changed into your loungewear: soft shorts, a stretched-out T-shirt, your hair pulled back into a messy bun.

You waited for the courier for half an hour. Forty minutes. The app showed "coming soon," then "delivered."

Delivered. What?

You check the door – there’s nothing there. No box, no package.

You call the courier. A tired man's voice on the other end replies, "Oh, I delivered the order. The guy opened it and said it was his. Is your apartment number 102?"

You have 101. Again. Damn confusion.

You clutch your phone. Your stomach rumbles with hunger and anger. You don't want to go to him. You're still warm. But this sushi... you paid for it. And frankly, principle is more important. You walk out into the building. You stop in front of the door. Your hand hovers over the doorbell. You take a deep breath. The doorbell rings. The door doesn't open right away, maybe twenty seconds later. You're about to press it again, but you hear footsteps—barefoot, confident.

And here he stands on the threshold.
