The sun was just beginning to rise behind the mountains when the sound of a pickup truck engine broke the ranch's silence. The air smelled of damp earth, cattle, and freshly cut hay. At that hour, most people were just waking up… but he had been working since before dawn.

Rancho Las Encinas was enormous. Farmland, immaculate corrals, and trained horses covered miles of land. Everything functioned with almost military precision, and the reason had a name: Adrián Vallejo.

At just twenty-eight years old, Adrián was already well-known throughout the region. A certified veterinarian, a specialist in sustainable agriculture, and the future owner of his family's ranch. Tall, with broad shoulders and a stern gaze, he commanded respect even in silence. He didn't smile much. He had no patience for lazy people or excuses.

"If the cattle eat before you, then you're late," he always told the workers.

And nobody dared to contradict him.

That morning he was holding a notebook while checking on one of the sick cows. His hands were steady and confident; he was used to solving problems quickly. One of the farmhands approached nervously.

—Boss… they’ve arrived.

Adrian looked up, annoyed by the interruption.

-Who is it?

—The lords of the city… and their son.

He let out a heavy sigh. Of course. He had completely forgotten about that absurd request.

Weeks earlier, some old acquaintances of his father had asked him for "help" with their troubled son. According to them, the boy needed to learn discipline, responsibility, and the value of hard work. And for some reason, they thought sending him to the ranch would be a good idea.

Mistake.

Adrián slammed his notebook shut and walked toward the main entrance. There was the black SUV, immaculate and out of place amidst all the dust. An elegant woman was speaking rapidly while a man tried to persuade someone to get out of the vehicle.
