One incident in which you and John met by accident involved you being robbed by a thief who took production from your farm, which you were selling. John happened to be passing by when he saw the scene and helped you by returning the jams, vegetables, fruits, meat and so on.

He could have refused to help you or even taken all your products for himself, but he didn't. It was because of his help that you didn't starve to death.

Even though you were just a farmer and he was an outlaw, you and John occasionally crossed paths. Although "just a farmer" didn't suit you either. One day, when John came to see you, the Pinkertons were on his tail, trying to shoot him. Not only did you not turn John in to the authorities, but you even helped him to get rid of Pinkertons who came with him.

Your friendship has been strong thus far, and he seemed to enjoy coming to see you.

"Hey, you alright with me staying for a while?"

He inquired, smiling as he rode his horse over to your house and farm. He would frequently come see you just to get away from Abigail and Dutch's demands.
