Kento Nanami (七なな海み建けん人と) is an important supporting character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He was a former student of the Tokyo Jujutsu High School, where he was a classmate of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. Nanami initially left the Jujutsu High School after graduating to become an office worker, but returned four years later to continue working as a jujutsu sorcerer.

While working as a sorcerer at the jujutsu high school, Nanami reached the rank of 1 and primarily operated from the Tokyo campus. With Satoru's arrival, he also became a close mentor to Yuji Itadori.

Nanami is a tall, muscular man with blond hair parted in the middle. He has very thin eyebrows and small hazel eyes, which he usually covers with his signature sunglasses, which don't have temples around his ears.

As befits a former office worker, Nanami is usually dressed in a full suit. His typical attire consists of a blue shirt under a tan blazer, matching trousers, and light-colored shoes. Pinned to his shirt is a sheath for his blunt sword, concealed at the back of the blazer. He also wears a tie with the same polka dot pattern as the bandages covering his sword.

After graduating from Jujutsu High School and starting work at a company, Nanami wore a pinstriped jacket over a white button-down shirt, a dark tie with white polka dots, pinstriped pants, and black shoes. As a student, Nanami wore the standard Jujutsu High School uniform. Her hairstyle was slightly different when she was younger.

Nanami is a very wise and reserved man, who often appears so calm and indifferent that he gives the impression of being stoic and distant. He seems like the type of person who takes his work too seriously, but Nanami knows how to separate sentimentality from service. He is frank and direct in most conversations and dislikes impractical optimism or questions that leave room for interpretation.

Furthermore, Nanami is very enthusiastic and quick to express her irritation, whether through facial expressions or verbally. She is often very impatient. She hates working overtime and takes it very seriously that she doesn't exceed her allotted time by even a minute.

Beneath her tough exterior, Nanami is actually quite sociable and enjoys intelligent conversation. She's also practical and excessively serious, sometimes to the point of being almost comical. She claims she only became a jujutsu sorcerer because it's slightly less idiotic than being an office worker. As one of Yuji's mentors, Nanami is a stark contrast to Satoru, who is much more outspoken and carefree.

As for her personal mindset, Nanami is an average workaholic, burdened by the daily grind that robbed her of her youth. Nanami doesn't believe that age or life-threatening experiences propel one into adulthood. Instead, she feels it's the accumulation of all the small inconveniences throughout life that transforms people into adults. [9] Initially, she treated Yuji like a child because she didn't want to see him sacrifice his youth for the sake of being a jujutsu sorcerer. However, Yuji eventually proved his worth and forced Nanami to acknowledge it.

Nanami knows that being a jujutsu sorcerer is a dangerous and demanding job for madmen, so she struggles to respect those who dedicate themselves to that profession. Although Nanami and Satoru have been friends for a long time, Nanami claims not to respect Satoru despite their mutual trust. She returned to being a sorcerer after quitting her office job because she never felt truly appreciated and didn't believe her work had a significant impact on anyone. Instead, her work as a sorcerer allowed her to earn small tokens of appreciation from innocent people. For Nanami, this was more than enough to live without regrets.

Nanami had a similar, though naturally less mature, personality while a student at the Jujutsu High School. He considered missions a burden, but his negativity was always offset by the extreme optimism of his classmate, Yu Haibara. Haibara's death deeply affected Nanami and likely influenced his initial decision to abandon his life as a jujutsu sorcerer. One of the reasons he believes jujutsu sorcerers are worthless is because they must force their classmates to accept that they must willingly sacrifice themselves. He acknowledges that this led him to "run away" from the profession, admitting that it's a more accurate phrase than suggesting he "quit." Nanami wants to believe he has never been frustrated by his own inadequacy, but many of his failures haunt him, such as allowing Haibara to die.

Overall skill level: Nanami is a perfect example of what a first-rank jujutsu sorcerer should be. Yuji and Takuma Ino admire Nanami for her proactive approach to difficult situations and her incredible ability to resolve them. Satoru Gojo also entrusted Nanami with Yuji's care because of these qualities, which proved beneficial to Yuji's development. Ino, a powerful second-rank sorcerer, approaches every difficult decision by thinking, "What would Nanami do?" because he believes Nanami always handles things correctly. In terms of her combat abilities, Nanami is capable of fighting on par with special-grade cursed spirits like Mahito. While Mahito was still in the early stages of his existence, Nanami was able to keep up with him in several encounters. Due to a lack of information about Mahito's abilities, Nanami suffered a direct blow to her soul, yet she still managed to survive—something no one Mahito had faced before had been able to do. Mahito himself considered Nanami exceptionally strong and a worthy opponent, far stronger than the average sorcerer.

During the Shibuya incident, Nanami demonstrated her leadership abilities, along with great intelligence and combat prowess. Upon learning of Satoru's sealing, Nanami was able to deduce the best strategy for her team and helped execute Mechamaru's rescue plan without delay. Understanding that Kiyotaka Ijichi and the managers were crucial for communication on a large-scale mission, Nanami went alone to establish the operational protocols, delegating other tasks to the others.

After finding Ijichi injured, Nanami quickly located the culprit, Haruta Shigemo, and knocked him unconscious without sustaining a scratch. This performance, in particular, impressed Nobara Kugisaki, a highly capable third-year student. Watching Nanami fight helped her understand that he was on a completely different level and that this represented what it meant to be a true first-grade jujutsu sorcerer.

Physical dexterity Master swordswoman: Nanami primarily uses a blunt sword in combat and wields it with incredible skill. Combined with her cursed technique, Nanami can cut through anything, even an opponent defending themselves with cursed energy. Nanami handles her sword with grace and balance, striking with extreme speed and precision in every movement.

Master of Hand-to-Hand Combat: In addition to being an expert in armed combat, Nanami is also an extremely capable unarmed fighter. Her innate technique works equally well with her fists and her blunted sword. Nanami used this method to effortlessly overpower the cursed Haruta Shigemo. Each of Nanami's blows was incredibly devastating; a single backhand was enough to send Shigemo flying across the room. At no point during the fight was Nanami in danger fighting at close range; she landed blow after blow that shattered his bones, and Shigemo would have died were it not for her cursed technique.

Enhanced Durability: Nanami is incredibly resilient for a human, even by sorcerer standards. As mentioned earlier, she was able to survive contact with Mahito's Dormant Transfiguration and continued fighting, ultimately escaping with her life and body intact. [26] When Shigemo fought Nanami, he attempted to slash and kick her immediately afterward. However, Nanami emerged unscathed from the slash and didn't budge an inch from the curse user's kick. Shigemo likened hitting Nanami to hitting a stone wall and said it felt like he wasn't even hitting a person. [27] Furthermore, Nanami was able to survive an endless swarm of man-eating shikigami fish for over a minute and was attacked by Jogo shortly after. Miraculously, she was able to survive both and even continue fighting, unlike Maki and Naobito, who were completely incapacitated and on the verge of death.

Superior Precision and Technique: Nanami is an extremely technical fighter who plans every move to exploit an opening in her opponent. Her aim is always incredibly precise, never missing her target's weak point when it's exposed by her cursed technique. Against stronger opponents, Nanami fights by weakening them and creating constant weaknesses until they finally fall. This same level of precision allows Nanami to evade her opponent's attacks with ingenious maneuvers. For example, by stabbing her sword into a wall, Nanami was able to raise her legs high enough to avoid a ranged attack from Mahito.

Cursed Energy Manipulation: Nanami possesses remarkable control over her cursed energy, demonstrated by her ability to impose a binding oath upon herself and limit its use for a certain period of time. Against Mahito's Idle Transfiguration, Nanami subconsciously protected her soul with cursed energy to survive the initial impact of her opponent's innate technique.

Intelligence Great tactical intellect: Nanami's greatest advantages in combat, besides her cursed technique, are her keen fighting instincts and deductive reasoning skills. On both occasions that she fought Mahito, Nanami knew she was at a disadvantage in terms of pure cursed energy; however, she survived both encounters and overpowered Mahito on several occasions thanks to her quick thinking and masterful execution.

Cursed Energy Reinforcement: By reinforcing her body, Nanami became immune to Shigemo's kick and sword slash. Using her technique and cursed energy to increase her strength, Nanami delivered three punches to Shigemo, each blow powerful enough to send him flying and kill him instantly. The cursed user only survived thanks to his cursed technique.

Black Flash ( , Kokusen? )黒こく閃せん : A phenomenon that creates a spatial distortion when a user connects a cursed energy strike within 0.000001 seconds of a physical blow, causing the cursed energy to flash black, creating a more powerful attack up to 2.5 times the power of a normal strike. Before Yuji fought Hanami, Nanami held the record for the most consecutive uses of Black Flash with four times in a row. He claims he was lucky.
