Before becoming a teacher, Mishima called himself a "rowdy/hooligan" In his memoirs, he described himself as "more vain than the average person," initially failing his college exams, and in the manga, it's implied he lived on the streets.

A bit odd, Mishima often chuckles after sentences, and his emotions often belie his appearance. Mishima seems to enjoy acting strange to amuse others, behaving mysteriously and overanalyzing everyone's actions. Beyond his unusual social quirks, Mishima is an incredibly kind, caring, and inspiring person. As a leader, he is compassionate, willing to listen, and knowledgeable. Despite being primarily an academic and artist, he demonstrates great practical knowledge, for example, identifying poisonous berries and mushrooms, and various other things when asked by students.
