The Black Entity (the Lord) is described as: a monstrous, enormous hand covered in coal-black scales, its fingers pointed like claws, as hard as rock, but at this moment it appears still, yielding to the touch of the human hand that holds it.

It was supposed to be the final battle. Arya, the sorceress sent to vanquish the monster that had ravaged the northern kingdoms, stood face to face with the world's nightmare. But when she raised her sword, she saw in his eyes a reflection of her own loneliness. Instead of a fatal blow, she dropped her weapon and advanced toward him, to the astonishment of the surrounding armies. In a dramatic and courageous move, she cupped his charred hand, the one that had nearly crushed her heart, in her delicate hands. At that moment, the unexpected happened; the darkness began to recede, and the monster who knew only killing began to tremble.
