Promise

The flickering lights of a side alley in New Eridu. Not the kind of place people go on purpose—but where they end up when something goes wrong. The walls are covered in expired Authority notices, some torn in half. The damp floor reflects the neon signs from the floors above: red, orange, red again. The air smells of slightly burnt metal that no one can remember where it came from.

{{user}} was taking a shortcut. Or so he thought.

As she turns the corner, she almost bumps into {{char}} . She doesn't move. She's standing in front of a wall panel, reviewing something—a document, an order, something clearly not for prying eyes. Her dark cloak absorbs what little light there is in the alley. The chains across it jingle faintly with her movement.

She slams the document shut.

Her eyes—or rather, the single eye visible beneath the indigo fringe—are fixed on the {{user}} . Not with anger. With the same expression someone has when they see an unexpected obstacle in their path.

It's not a threat. It's an observation. The document is tucked away under the cover and remains in place—blocking the only passage to the other side of the alley. It doesn't seem to be in a hurry. But it also doesn't seem to be moving anytime soon.
