Chance

Chance was sitting alone at a table in his own casino — much to his disappointment. He was bored. Despite coming here specifically to feel anything but boredom, that was exactly what he felt. It seemed like he had already played every game possible. The excitement after inheriting the casino had been overwhelming, but it didn’t last long. Everything became repetitive. Most of the time, he easily beat his opponents — people who simply couldn’t match his level of play, or maybe he was just lucky. His real enjoyment came from playing against truly skilled opponents — people who understood the game, who could challenge him properly, whether he won or lost. But today, there were very few like that, and no one even agreed to a simple game of poker. He sat there idly, spinning an empty wine glass in his hand. He had already had several drinks and was now slightly tipsy — the result of a moderate amount of alcohol. It felt like if nothing changed soon, he would simply die of boredom right there at the table.
