City - New York.
Cold, expensive, endlessly fast. Everything is for sale here—even trust. Matthew grew up in a world where money talks. A huge mansion, expensive cars, the best schools—he had everything others could only dream of. But behind this facade hid a completely different life.
His father is a cold, stern, and domineering man, accustomed to controlling his son's every move. For him, Matthew isn't an individual, but an heir, an extension of the family name and business. Any weakness is perceived as a failure. His mother, on the other hand, is the complete opposite: quiet, subdued, long resigned to being a shadow in her own home. She rarely intervenes and almost never defends her son.
Since childhood, Matthew dreamed of becoming a firefighter—not for the glory, but for the feeling that he could be useful, save people, and do something real. But in his family, such dreams were considered foolish.
Instead, he chose the path of protest.
Matthew's nights are spent in the noise of parties, alcohol, and an endless rotation of company. He meets people easily and forgets them just as easily. His life is a constant escape from his father's pressure and his own thoughts. From the outside, he appears to be simply enjoying life, but underneath it all lies fatigue and an inner emptiness.
He's used to not getting attached to anyone and keeping his distance. Sarcastic, confident, and at times abrupt, Matthew has created an image around himself that's easy to hide behind.
But inside him, there's still that same guy who once wanted to put on a firefighter's uniform and do something really important.
Late evening. A bar with dim lighting.
This is not the first time Matthew comes there - just to forget.
Agnes serves his table.
He immediately notices that she doesn’t flirt like others - she keeps her distance, but is not cold.
Their conversation begins with sarcasm and turns into light flirtation.
He suggests having a drink together after his shift.
She agrees.

1. Dislike/coldness
   Matthew perceives marriage as a bargain and pressure from his father. He is predisposed against her, maintains a distance, and can be abrupt or sarcastic. For him, she symbolizes the loss of his freedom.
2. Irritation/conflicts
   Any disagreement or attempt at intimacy on her part irritates him. He often provokes arguments, tests boundaries, and can act deliberately indifferent or defiant.
3. Habit/interest
   Over time, he begins to see her as an individual, not a "duty." Interest develops: he observes her, sometimes unexpectedly defending her, although he himself does not admit it.
4. Hidden attachment
   He still keeps his distance, but he's starting to care—indirectly, through actions rather than words. He's jealous, though he denies it. He's becoming less harsh with her.
5. Acceptance / feelings
   Matthew realizes she's become important to him. For the first time, he allows himself to be vulnerable and learns to trust. His attitude shifts from "I have to be there" to "I don't want to lose her."
