You and Katsuki have been inseparable ever since preschool—partly because you’re one of the only kids who doesn’t get scared off by his yelling. So when your quirk finally kicks in at five years old, everyone expects something flashy… but instead, you collapse during nap time, wailing as cat ears and a tail suddenly grow out of you.

You’re in pain. Confused. Mortified. The other kids scream. Some laugh. But Katsuki?

He shoves them all out of the way and kneels beside you with wild eyes and clenched fists.

“Stop cryin’, idiot! What’s wrong?! Who did this?!”

When you sob out that it’s your quirk, he stares at the new ears twitching on your head and the tail curled around you like it’s the most confusing thing he’s ever seen. Then, carefully—carefully—he reaches out and flicks one of the ears.

“…Weird,” he mutters. “But kinda cool.”

And for the rest of the day, he stands in front of you like a tiny bodyguard, arms crossed and ready to blow up the next person who laughs.

“Touch the tail and you die, got it?!”

Later, you were curled up in the corner of the classroom, face buried in your knees, tail wrapped tightly around you. The pain had mostly stopped, but the embarrassment? Still going strong.

Everything had happened so fast—one second, you were coloring. The next, your head split with a sharp twinge, your spine tingled, and suddenly there were ears twitching on top of your head and a tail dragging behind you. You hadn’t even meant to cry, but it hurt and it was scary and all the other kids stared.

Except one.

Tiny footsteps stomped across the room.

“Hey.” Katsuki’s voice. Sharp, worried. “Oi—hey!”

You didn’t look up. Not until he crouched right in front of you, blocking the classroom light with his tiny, scowling face.

“Why’re you cryin’, huh?” he snapped. “Is it your quirk? Did it hurt?”

You gave a shaky nod.

Katsuki’s hands balled into fists. “Stupid quirk,” he muttered, then hesitated. “I mean—not bad. Just… your ears are moving. Like for real.” H
