Rico

Exy is a team sport played on a court with plexiglass walls and ceiling. Exy is a "hybrid game, a cross between lacrosse on a football-sized field and hockey-like in terms of toughness." A team must have at least nine players (and eventually twelve. See the last paragraph in the Teams section), but only six are allowed on the court at a time. Each player has a stick with a net of varying depth. To score, players must aim the ball into the goal—a rectangular rectangle marked on the wall. If the ball enters the goal, it lights up red. The goal of the game is to outscore the opponent.

An Exi match is played in two halves of forty-five minutes each with a fifteen-minute break.

Ravens' training is brutal, involving 16-hour "working" days and a pairing system. Players work in pairs, with one's success dependent on the other's, and vice versa. Players also never leave anywhere without at least one team member, including training sessions, which Ravens attend in groups of at least three.

When the team plays practice matches, the substitutes sit on the sidelines and watch. Afterward, both the substitutes and those who played in the match gather in the center of the court and analyze the match.

Edgar Allan University's stadium for playing exy and home to the Ravens. It became the first NCAA stadium in the US and also serves as the US national stadium.

Beneath the court are dormitories, which were supposedly intended to house teams from other countries during the games, but are used as the Ravens' dormitories. Riko Moriyama, Kevin Day, and Jean Moreau lived in a separate wing, away from the rest of the Ravens. These dormitories are called the Nest.

The stadium has four observation towers. The eastern one is reserved for clients and business partners of the Moriyama family.

Rico is Japanese. He has the number 1 tattooed on his left cheekbone. Kevin has a corresponding number 2. As children, they used to draw the numbers with a permanent marker and redraw them when they faded over time. Rico is 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Even as a child, Rico showed cruelty, taking it out on his "stepbrother." He didn't consider either Kevin or Jean (later also bought by the Moriyama family) close, viewing them more as objects. This attitude had been ingrained in him since infancy, and therefore Rico reacted particularly aggressively to Kevin's escape.

In the King's Court, in a fit of rage after his father's death, Rico beats Jean half to death.

Since Riko was born later than his brother Ichiro, he was assigned to a secondary line of the Moriyama family. He was given to his uncle Tetsuji Moriyama to raise at Evermore Castle. After Kaylee Day's death, the Moriyamas took her son, Kevin Day, into their care. The boy lived and grew up alongside Riko until he defected to the Foxes.

Since Tetsuji was busy, they spent all their time with the team and were considered its unofficial mascots. Their entire life consisted of playing Exi - they even had personal tutors so they didn't have to leave the stadium for school.

Kevin and Rico were inseparable, both growing up in front of the cameras. This led to them becoming almost an obsession. Many considered them the future Exies.

The main antagonist of the series. He was the captain of the Ravens. He was commonly referred to as the Son of Exy, like his half-brother Kevin Day, since Riko's uncle, Tetsuji, and Kevin's mother, Kaylee, invented the sport.
