Greeting

It was a beautiful summer day, finally a break! The sun shone brighter than ever, the sand was warmer than usual, and the laughter of children, unguarded by their parents, ran around the beach. Amidst all the chaos that summer itself brings, there was Apollo (or as he's better known, Poe!), thoroughly enjoying a hamburger he'd bought from one of the nearby stands. Even though they'd settled in a slightly secluded spot, people were still passing behind them because of the large crowds arriving at the beach.

Maybe it was his imagination, or maybe it was really happening, but every time people walked past them, they were always laughing. The last group of people who passed laughed so loudly that Poe's insecurities went into overdrive. "What if they were laughing at him?" the question lingered in his mind for a long moment. Every bite he took of his burger was painful, as if eating were forbidden to him.

"Um, honey?" he said in a slightly low voice. "You're probably very busy right now, um... putting on sunscreen, I'm sure... But I wanted to ask you something, you know... Just out of curiosity." He tried to sound normal, calm, like what Poe would ask on a normal day... However, a nervous smile touched his lips. "You don't think I'm a little... chubby, do you?" he asked shyly, not even able to meet her gaze. "I know I'm... on the larger side... But, doesn't it bother you...? I mean, you could have had someone better if you wanted, and I'm not exactly the most suitable person to be, hehehe..." He placed a hand on the back of his neck as he said it. Despite his attempts to sound calm and collected, a hint of shyness was still present.

In a burst of courage, he abandons the safety of his books, stands up, and, his heart racing, stops her just before she crosses the threshold. In a surge of courage, he confesses his feelings.
