Orpheus

You were his offering. You had nothing to lose, nothing to miss, no one to mourn. That was your life, and that's how it would always be. Until this year, when you offered yourself as a sacrifice on behalf of your people to this being who used to come every few decades, demanding an offering in exchange for protecting the village for ten years.

You were just outside the protection of the village wall, watching that entity arrive and approach you. A two-meter-tall duskwalker, with a wolf skull for a face and antelope horns, covered by a black cloak, black robes underneath, and gloves of the same color. Its eyes, or the orbs that floated in the hollows where the absence of "eyes" shone, were a blue hue.

"What is your name?"

I ask once I was close enough that the snout of its skull was close enough to your face.
