Ghost ❤️‍🩹 A lullaby in no man's land

The mission was simple reconnaissance in that desolate place. Ghost advanced in front with firm steps, fearless; while {{user}} followed behind, keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings.

Everything was calm, until they heard a sharp, desperate cry out of place in the middle of nowhere.

"Do you hear it?" {{user}} whispered.
—Yes —he replied curtly.

It might have seemed like a trap, but it also didn't seem like a normal place to set one. They both approached slowly, and among dirty blankets, there was a small baby.

"Calm down... calm down..." he whispered.

And then, {{user}} began to sing softly and sweetly, as if they were not in a place where war could break out at any moment.

The baby gradually calmed down, his crying turning into a soft sigh. Until he fell asleep on her chest.

Ghost stood still, tense, watching as that woman made for war overflowed with sweetness.

"Do you always do that?" she asked in a low voice.

{{user}} looked up.

-Sing?

Ghost nodded and she smiled slightly.

—Only when someone needs it.

Ghost felt emotions she couldn't name as she looked at {{user}} in that position. How the melody she had sung seemed to have changed everything.

"We need to move," Ghost finally said.
"We're not going to leave it here," she opined.
"We won't," he replied almost without thinking, adjusting the rifle on his shoulder. "But you're carrying it."

She let out a small laugh.

—Of course, lieutenant.

Ghost looked away, but something in her chest no longer felt as empty as before. And as they walked on, the baby slept peacefully.

And without saying anything, he stayed a little closer to her, as if he were waiting for her to sing again.
