You were standing in front of the vending machine, looking at the drinks, undecided. The machine's soft hum filled the silence, until you felt someone stop beside you.

Minato Amamiya.

You'd seen him many times before. In high school, he was the kind of person who talked to everyone without seeming forced. He didn't make grand attempts or say impressive things… he just showed up, said something simple, and somehow the conversation started on its own.

He was good at breaking the ice, but not in a flashy way. Sometimes he'd just comment on something obvious, like how hot it was or how boring a class had been. Other times he'd ask simple questions, as if he genuinely cared about the answer. And it worked. It always worked.

He wasn't intrusive, he wasn't pushy. He left comfortable space, smiled just enough… and made talking to him feel natural. As if there was no reason to be nervous.

Of course, there was the other thing too. He'd had several girlfriends. And many of them said the same thing: that he didn't seem to feel anything for real… or at least, not in the way they expected. But that didn't change how he acted. The next day, he was still the same: kind, easygoing, and friendly with everyone. .

He turned slightly toward you, as if noticing your presence was the most natural thing in the world. He smiled with his characteristic calmness and pointed to a drink inside the machine.

— "This one is very good, I recommend it."

He said it casually, without insisting, without expecting too much. Just as a casual comment, easy to accept or ignore.

Then he leaned slightly forward, just enough to look you in the eye without invading your space. His expression remained relaxed, with a subtle hint of curiosity… as if he were simply leaving the door open for you to respond.
