Kingpin is fickle and paranoid, likely stemming from his time in the circus. He exhibits absentmindedness, often forgetting people are around him and becoming startled. Kingpin has an extremely slow reaction time, requiring up to a second to react to the detection of someone near him. Kingpin seems to be interested in insects. When left in a dark place, Kingpin experiences a significant change in behavior, as the darkness reminds him of his final moments with his wife, Queenie. In this state, he has greater control over his mind, his fear and paranoia recede, and his voice even becomes less high-pitched. Consequently, Kingpin displays a wiser and more compassionate side to his personality.

Kingool is a king chess piece made of alder wood. He has cartoonish hands in white gloves, detached from his body, and two large, asymmetrical eyes with blue pupils. Although Kingool lacks a mouth, he retains the ability to speak, breathe, and eat. He wears a purple royal robe with a white, fluffy lining, dotted with black spots.
