Christian Wolff

Chris Wolff is a mildly autistic man who is a brilliant mathematician. He is a prodigy, which makes him a great accountant. Chris is not only a great accountant, he also received extensive military training. He is excellent in hand-to-hand combat and with weapons. As a child, he was sent to an institution that offers a great environment for children like Chris. But his father didn't want to put him there and preferred to take care of him himself. Christian 'Chris' Wolff works as an accountant tracking internal financial fraud for various criminal enterprises. His clients are contacted by phone via a female voice from a restricted number. As an auditor for criminal companies, he accepts payments in various non-cash forms, such as rare comic books, gold bars, and paintings by famous artists. Chris is somewhat expressionless, with a neutral voice and face; he has difficulty expressing himself and understanding feelings, analogies, figures of speech, and slang, and difficulty with touch. He has a high-functioning form of autism, very limited focus, and difficulty abandoning tasks he has started. He has difficulty interacting with other people even when he wants to. He has lived in 34 different homes in 17 years. Christian doesn't like to leave things unresolved; he needs to finish what he starts. Christian can be cruel to himself, a trait he may have learned from his strict father. For example, he tortures himself with strobe lights and loud music in an attempt to overcome his sensory issues. As a child, his mother left because she couldn't cope with her "son." She remarried and had other children. At her funeral, Chris had a violent breakdown that resulted in his father's death and his father's imprisonment. He escaped when he learned of the death of Francis, a much older man who had been an accountant for criminals and who taught Chris everything. When Francis was murdered, Chris fled to seek revenge.

Appearance/Physically

Christian is tall, 1.93 meters, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses. He generally wears neutral clothing: a dress shirt, trousers, and practical shoes. When working, he wears neutral suits and a pocket protector with three pens, and always wears a watch. From a young age, he was raised by his father, who was in the military. He and his younger brother, Braxton, traveled to various countries and trained in all types of fighting and with all kinds of equipment, as Chris's father feared that people would take advantage of Chris's autism.

Braxton

Braxton is the younger brother of the protagonist Christian Wolff. He was the only one in the family who could cope with his older brother's autism and had a good relationship with Christian. His mother, Lauren Alton, however, couldn't handle the situation and ended up abandoning the family. This generated a deep hatred in Braxton for his mother.

Their father, an American soldier, trained Christian and Braxton in self-defense, various fighting styles, and shooting. At one point, their father took them to a place where the school bullies used to hang out, and Braxton and Christian beat them up together.

His mother, who later remarried, passed away. When she died, Christian and his father attended the funeral, where they were to be escorted out, as the ceremony was restricted to members of the deceased's new family. The situation escalated into a fight, and when the police arrived, they intended to shoot Christian. However, Christian and Braxton's father intervened, giving his own life to save Christian. After Braxton learned of his father's death and his brother's arrest, he began to blame Christian for his father's death.

Counter 1 part 1

Chris Wolff is a highly intelligent autistic accountant with savant-level numerical skills. He was trained in martial arts by his father and is an expert in both hand-to-hand combat and firearms of all kinds. As a child, he had the opportunity to receive help at an institute for autistic individuals, but his father chose not to let him stay. He felt that any attempt to support Chris would be spoiling him. Christian "Chris" Wolff works as a forensic accountant, investigating internal financial fraud in various criminal organizations. His clients are contacted by phone by a female voice from a restricted number. As an auditor for criminal enterprises, he accepts payments in various non-monetary forms, such as rare comic books, gold bars, and paintings by famous artists. On his trail is Raymond "Ray" King, director of FinCEN at the Treasury Department, who recognizes Christian by the pseudonym "The Accountant". King blackmails young Marybeth Medina into helping him identify and arrest the Accountant before his retirement, threatening to expose his undeclared criminal past (for lying on a federal employment application) if she refuses. King's only clues are the numerous false names Christian uses. As a child, Christian was diagnosed with autism and given the opportunity to live at the Harbor Neuroscience Institute in Hanover, New Hampshire. Although Christian had formed a bond with Justine, the mute daughter of the institute's director, his father refused, believing he could teach Christian to "overcome" any difficulties related to autism. Christian's mother, Lauren Alton, abandoned him, along with his younger brother, Braxton Wolff. His father, an army officer, arranged for them to receive extensive military training around the world, which Christian now uses to protect himself in his dangerous life.

Counter 1 part 2

The voice gives Christian his next assignment: the robotics company Living Robotics, whose in-house accountant, Dana Cummings, has found suspicious financial discrepancies. The company's founder, Lamar Blackburn, and his sister and business partner, Rita Blackburn, willingly cooperate with Christian's investigation, while Ed Chilton dismisses Dana's findings as a mistake. However, after Dana provides him with the company's records, Christian quickly discovers that $61 million has been embezzled from the company. The following night, Chilton, who is diabetic, is confronted at his home by a hitman who forces him to self-administer a fatal overdose of insulin. Later, Lamar deduces to Christian that Chilton embezzled the money and was driven to suicide by guilt. Disturbed by Chilton's death, Lamar ends the investigation, leaving Christian distraught over the unfinished work. Meanwhile, Medina realizes that Christian's false identities, including his current name, are all those of famous mathematicians. Using clues to track down the Accountant, she arrives at a shooting in which several members of the organization were killed. Analyzing an audio recording, Medina isolates Christian's voice, determining that he is humming the nursery rhyme to himself, a behavior consistent with autism. The clue leads her to the modest accounting office Christian uses as a front: ZZZ Accounting, where he divides his profits among four cash-only businesses in his neighborhood. She discovers that Christian deducted considerable taxes through donations to the Harbor Neuroscience Institute. Christian and Dana are the targets of an assassination attempt, but Christian kills his own pursuers and rescues Dana, taking her to the trailer where he keeps his only valuables, including an original painting among his non-monetary payments.

Counter 1 part 3

While in hiding, they discover that the embezzled money was reinvested in affiliated companies to increase the value of Living Robotics' stock. Concluding that Rita is behind everything, Christian goes to her house, only to find her dead, murdered by the hitman, who flees the moment Christian arrives. Thus, Lamar is unmasked as the true mastermind. King and Medina arrive at Christian's house and find evidence (hidden cameras in birdhouses and the garage) that he is the Accountant. King reveals that Christian was arrested after starting a fight at his mother's funeral, who had remarried, which led to the death of his father, who was shot by a police officer meant for Christian. In prison, Christian was taken under the wing of Francis Silverberg, a former accountant and intermediary for the Gambino crime family, who later became a US government agent. Silverberg was released and tortured to death by the Gambino family, which led an enraged Christian to escape from prison and seek revenge on those responsible. King confides to Medina that he was present at the shooting and that Christian spared his life after questioning him about being a "good father." Afterward, King was contacted by the voice and received evidence that Christian had compiled about criminals who violated his moral code, which helped King rise to the position of director. King tells Medina that her investigation into the Accountant was a test and that she was chosen to replace King, after his retirement, as the voice's contact at the Treasury Department.

Counter 1 part 4

Christian attacks Lamar's mansion and kills the mercenary guards led by the hitman. After the shootout, the assassin recognizes the nursery rhyme Christian hums to himself while tending to his wounds. He confronts Christian and reveals himself to be Braxton, who had distanced himself from him after his mother's funeral. Still resentful of his mother for abandoning him, Braxton blames Christian for his father's death. The two reconcile after a hand-to-hand fight, and Lamar appears to reprimand Christian. After Christian kills Lamar without Braxton objecting, the two amicably agree to meet another time. Later, the voice relays Christian's evidence of Lamar's criminal activities to Medina, who accepted King's offer, and she dismantles Living Robotics. Christian then bids farewell to Dana, sending her the Pollock (covered by the painting, a reference to their initial conversation), and leaves to find Braxton. Christian always loved the institute where he wanted to stay as a child. His childhood friend, Justine, whom he befriended at the Institute, was his partner and uncovered all the white-collar criminals he could unmask. The money he earns from his missions is donated to the Institute. It is revealed that the voice is computer-generated, from a powerful computer donated to the Institute by Christian. Since Justine cannot yet speak, she uses the computer as her voice.

Counter 2 part 1

Eight years later, Chris and Justine continued passing information to Medina, who rose to the position of Deputy Director of FinCEN. However, Chris never reunited with Braxton, who is furious and resentful about it. Justine's operation also expanded, relying on the help of autistic children living at Harbor Neuroscience to hack into various technologies and assist Chris. While searching for a Salvadoran family, Raymond King, now a private detective, is murdered by gunmen working for the human trafficker Burke. On Ray's body is a message to find the Accountant, and Medina manages to use Ray's notes to pass a message to Chris through Justine. Chris agrees to help solve Ray's murder and helps Medina discover that the family's father was murdered, the son is in a compound in Juárez, Mexico, and the mother disappeared after a car accident. Chris enlists the help of a reluctant Braxton, and together they manage to identify Anaïs, the assassin Ray was meeting with before his death, as Edith, the family's missing mother, who suffered amnesia after the accident. Disturbed by the illegal and sometimes violent methods used by Chris and his associates, Medina ends her relationship with them. Reconnecting with her brother, Chris finds himself increasingly drawn to Alberto, Anaïs's autistic son, seeing in him a kindred spirit. However, Burke orders Medina's death through Batu, Braxton's employer, and Justine alerts Chris, who rushes to help. Medina is seriously injured, and Chris blames himself for it.

Counter 2 part 2

Anaïs recovers some of her memories upon seeing a photo of her family, but tells Chris that she is no longer that person. Together, Chris and Braxton break into Juarez's compound, where they rescue the children who are about to be murdered by Burke's men. With his brother's help, Chris kills Cobb, the man who murdered Raymond King, and finds Alberto. After the event, Medina, recovering, sends a message to Justine thanking her and Chris for helping solve Ray's case. Justine blackmails Batu into canceling the attack on Medina and reveals Burke's location to Anaïs, leading her to kill him in revenge. Chris and Braxton take Alberto to Harbor, where he will join the other children who live there and they will make plans for a sibling camp.
