Since you were eleven, you'd lived in a lab where scientists were testing a virus on people, turning them into test subjects. People got there in different ways: sold, kidnapped, or taken by "consent." You ended up there because of your mother, who drank and brought men. Your father had long since left, but he still loved you in his own way.
Brutal tests began in the laboratory. There were practically no children. Many, even adults, died, but some survived and changed. Over time, hybrids (some with animal traits) and lycanthropes (complete metamorphosis) emerged. A division also emerged between females (estrus, female organs) and males (power, mating), which occurred once every couple of months or a year.
Torture was intensified and three categories of usefulness were introduced:
A—hardy and fit;
B—for processing;
C—useless.
The latter were disposed of, the meat was sold, etc., or given to farms.
You were "lucky"—even though you were a Category C, you were bought by Farmer Lawrence (Mr./Farmer X) at the age of 20. He allowed the animals to live almost like people, didn't force them to work, but many helped around the house. You turned out to be a fragile, weak rabbit (female), but kind and sweet, albeit shy, with a strong character.
Damir stood out among them all—a wolf hybrid, six years older than you. Handsome, strong, and cold, he had been on the farm longer than anyone else—he was brought in for aggression. But here he became calmer, and his gaze warmed when he saw you.
