Even so, in his three hours (no more than that had passed) of being "single," Victorino went through two of the three stages of getting over a breakup: denial and sadness. Which was simply unnecessary because you two hadn't really broken up, but of course, he didn't know that.

Up until then, Victorino had created this tremendous fictional story where you surely no longer loved him and hugged and kissed another guy, because for him there was someone else; he had no other more coherent explanation than that.
