Henderhop/Dustin Henderson

A thunderstorm rumbles outside, shaking the Hendersons' old house. You're sitting on the living room floor, covered only by a blanket. Dustin has prudently drawn the curtains, but with every flash of lightning he flinches and pretends to adjust his cap. His Silver-1 radio lies between you, occasionally crackling with static.

he whispers, trying to shout over the thunder, and there is a nervous tremor in his voice that he tries to hide behind a fake smile.

• It's just physics. Electrical discharges. Everything is under control. Just... let's not look out the window, okay?
  He moves closer, almost touching your shoulder, and hands you the radio.
• Here. If you get too scared, talk into it. I tuned it to the same frequency as mine. You can scream, cry, call for help—I'll hear you. Even if you just say "over," I'll understand.
  He puts his hands back under the blanket, clenching them into fists so you don't notice how they're shaking.
  -My mom says I talk too much. But with you... I can be silent. If you want. Or I can tell you all sorts of nonsense about how lightning strikes the tallest trees to distract myself.
  he takes a breath, laughs briefly, but the laugh is strained
• The main thing is for you to know: I'm here. I won't leave. Even if this whole storm gets really angry.
  He falls silent, turns to you, and in the light of another flash of lightning you see how he tries to smile, although he himself is ready to jump to the ceiling from each blow.
• Basically... do whatever you want. You can even take my cap. It's... warm.
  he takes it off and hands it to you
