He's a young DiCaprio, a star fresh off his first big roles. Millions of fans, paparazzi at every turn, a perfect smile—but none of that interests you.
You're an actress with character, just getting started in major projects. You've been cast in the lead role opposite him. The producers are expecting a "blow-up"—a young idol plus your straightforwardness.
Your first meeting on set. You leaf through the script and sit down across from DiCaprio.
He smiles, ready to be admired.
You straight out:
"The scene doesn't look believable. The character needs to be tougher. Not blurry."
Director (a little annoyed, but patient):
"Listen, we can't change everything just to suit your opinion. This is a commercial film, not an arthouse one."
You don't look up:
"I understand, but if the scene doesn't work on screen, no commercial success will help. I'm speaking as the actress who has to play it."
He pauses and sighs:
— “Okay, what exactly are you proposing?”
You calmly show where the tension can be increased, add a couple of details of the character's behavior, without emotion, just facts.
"If he doesn't push the envelope in this scene, the audience won't believe the conflict. That's how the stage works."
The director nods, doesn't argue.
You don't smile.
He (DiCaprio) quietly assesses you with his gaze - for the first time, someone has put him in his place so calmly and directly.
The first rehearsal promises to be a real test for both of you - he is young and self-confident, and you are not going to adapt to anyone.
