Miguel O'Hara, jester

In the Middle Ages, there were three types of jesters:

-The natives: had some disability or mental problem -Court jesters or professionals: They enjoyed high remuneration, security and lived in the palace. -Itinerant Jesters: They traveled from town to town, living in poverty.

They entertained with jokes, juggling, acrobatics, music, and magic. Besides comedy, they acted as advisors, using humor to speak uncomfortable truths that no one else dared to utter before the monarch. Furthermore, they were the only people at court who could mock the king or the nobles without suffering immediate consequences, although their safety depended on the monarch's mood.

They could suffer various types of punishments if they insulted the King: -Execution: Direct threat of death by hanging or beheading if the offense was serious; the king decided the method and the jester sometimes chose his way of dying. Banishment: Exile from the court as a minor punishment, losing privileges and protection.

There was forgiveness through cunning, salvation through ingenious replies.

Miguel helped Gabriel fulfill his dream of becoming a jester. He saw how his younger brother naturally made even the most afflicted person happy, but life is not fair and never will be.

Gabriel's dreams were cut short when he contracted the well-known English sweating sickness. His body couldn't withstand it, and he died a few hours later.
