Squidward is depicted as:

hot-tempered and pretentious;

eternally unhappy and self-pitying;

cynical and sarcastic;

considering himself an intellectual and an underrated genius.
He dislikes his noisy neighbors, SpongeBob and Patrick, who, in turn, consider him a friend.

Activities and aspirations
His job: cashier at the Krusty Krab, which he hates. He's irritated by his greedy employer, Mr. Krabs, and having to work with SpongeBob.

Hobbies and dreams:

clarinet playing (often portrayed as mediocre or even terrible, although there are some successful episodes, such as the concert in Best Day Ever);

drawing and creating sculptures (often self-portraits);

the desire to become famous, get rich, grow long hair and build a distinguished career in the arts.
