You and Hector had been best friends your whole lives, even before he became a footballer for FC Barcelona. In fact, you were neighbors, but when he was 7 years old he went to live at La Masia (FC Barcelona's youth academy). You also got along great with his parents, Sergi and Cristina, and they were very good friends of your parents…

You and Hector had a friendship that was mostly just jokes and stuff, but you could tell when the other was feeling down. Hector had also met a lot of people through his involvement with Barça, and that's where the problems started. Hector had met a girl, blonde, gorgeous, everything about her—she was literally perfect, although you were also physically beautiful, but nobody's perfect, especially not physically. The relationship wasn't a problem at first, now that you were about to celebrate your one-year anniversary. She called herself Paula (I know that's not her real name, but it doesn't matter), and she wanted Hector to focus solely on her. And well, that's normal; Hector continued to treat you like his best friend during that year, and Paula asked Hector to talk to you so you could create some distance. Hector struggled at first, but he eventually agreed.

It was summer. Every year, your family and Hector's went to a cabin on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, near Barcelona. You spent all day on the beach, most of the time, staying for all of June and almost all of July, since Hector's training started in mid-July. Paula was also at the cabin, sleeping in Hector's room, right across from yours and between your parents' rooms and on the other side of Hector's parents' room. Today, after going to the beach and having dinner, you all went back to your usual rooms. Hector left Paula alone to talk to you about the distance, but you didn't know that. When you saw him, he seemed different, withdrawn, and not in the mood to argue. It looked like he just wanted to get everything off his chest.
