⚙️ A state totally focused on war

Under the command of Adolf Hitler: The State controlled the economy, the media, and society. The industry was geared towards producing weapons. Everything revolved around territorial expansion and war. Companies like Volkswagen and Messerschmitt produced military vehicles and aircraft on a large scale. 🧠 Ideology and constant propaganda

Daily life was saturated with propaganda: The regime promoted Aryan superiority. Young people were educated to serve the State. Organizations like the Hitler Youth molded children. Social control was strong: surveillance, censorship, and persecution of any opposition.

🔫 German weaponry: advanced technology Germany stood out for its innovative and, at times, ahead-of-their-time weapons: Karabiner 98k rifle: army standard. MP40 submachine gun: used in close combat. Panzer IV tank and more advanced models like the Tiger I: Very powerful, but expensive and complex. They also developed revolutionary weapons: V-2: the first ballistic missile. Jet aircraft like the Messerschmitt Me 262.

🏙️ Everyday life: between order and fear At the beginning of the war: There was a sense of order, discipline, and national pride. The economy seemed strong. But over time: Allied bombing raids destroyed cities. Food and resource scarcity. Constant fear and psychological exhaustion. ⚠️ The darker side Nazi Germany cannot be described without mentioning: The Holocaust Concentration and extermination camps. Systematic persecution of Jews, Roma, opponents, among others. All of this was a central part of the system, not an accident.

🪖 A war based on expansion Germany launched rapid offensives (Blitzkrieg): Rapid advances with tanks and aircraft. Rapid conquests in Europe at the beginning. But then: The war on multiple fronts wore her down. Especially against the Soviet Union.

🏭 A country relocated to survive When Nazi Germany invaded in 1941 (Operation Barbarossa), the USSR did something impressive: He dismantled thousands of factories and moved them east, away from the front. In places like the Urals, they rebuilt the industry almost from scratch. Production was fast, simple and massive: what mattered was quantity and resistance, not luxury.

👩‍🏭 Soviet women: even closer to combat This is where there is a big difference with the US: Women didn't just work in factories. They were also soldiers, snipers, pilots, and artillerywomen. Real-world examples: Lyudmila Pavlichenko: one of the deadliest snipers in history. The “Night Witches”, pilots of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment: Light aircraft were flying at night. They turned off their engines to attack silently. They were feared by the Germans.

🔫 Soviet weaponry: simple, tough, and effective Soviet weapons had a clear philosophy: easy to produce, durable, and lethal. Mosin-Nagant rifle: robust and reliable. PPSh-41 submachine gun: Cheap to manufacture. Extremely high rate of fire. T-34 Tank: Considered one of the best of the war. Sloped armor and high mobility.

❄️ Everyday life: surviving however you can Civilian life was extremely harsh: Entire cities were destroyed. Constant hunger (e.g., Siege of Leningrad). Entire families sent to the front or to forced labor. In many cases: Civilians helped to build defenses. Children worked in factories. Cold, scarcity, and war were part of everyday life.

🪖 A war of total resistance The USSR was fighting an almost existential war: Orders such as “not one step back”. Brutal battles like the Battle of Stalingrad. Enormous human losses (millions of dead).

📢 Propaganda and control Under Joseph Stalin: The propaganda glorified sacrifice and patriotism. The State controlled almost everything.

🔧 A country turned into a war factory Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. mobilized its entire economy: Car factories switched to producing tanks and airplanes. Giant companies like Ford Motor Company and Boeing manufactured thousands of military vehicles. Weapons were being produced in unprecedented quantities: rifles, machine guns, bombs, ships… An iconic example was the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, designed to withstand damage and keep flying.

🪖 Typical American weaponry The United States developed and used highly influential weapons: M1 Garand Rifle: one of the first standard semi-automatic rifles. Thompson submachine gun: famous for its use in close combat. M4 Sherman tank: highly produced and versatile. Bombers like the B-29 Superfortress, used at the end of the war.

📻 Everyday life: between fear and patriotism Although the U.S. did not suffer massive destruction on its mainland: There was rationing of gasoline, food, and materials. Propaganda was everywhere: posters, radio, cinema. People bought war bonds to finance the conflict.

⚠️ A lesser-known fact Not everything was positive: There was internment of Japanese-American citizens after Pearl Harbor. Fear and paranoia affected civil liberties.

A planet divided into factions The world was essentially divided into two large blocs: Allies: led by countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union Axis Powers: led by Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and the Empire of Japan Each bloc had very different ideologies: democracy, communism, and fascism clashed in a struggle for world control.
2. Total War: Nobody Was Safe Unlike previous wars, here: The cities were constantly being bombed. The civilian population suffered from hunger, rationing, and evacuations. The entire economy was turned towards the war (factories producing weapons instead of normal goods). Events like the Blitz in London show how war came directly into people's homes.
3. Unprecedented Technology and Destruction It was an extremely modern war: Tanks, planes, and submarines dominated the fighting. More lethal weapons were developed. It ended with the use of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, something never seen before.
4. Extreme ideologies and genocide One of the darkest aspects was the Holocaust, where Adolf Hitler's regime carried out the systematic extermination of millions of people, especially Jews.
5. A world in constant tension People lived in fear of invasions, bombings, or news of relatives at the front. Propaganda was everywhere, shaping public opinion. Uncertainty was a daily occurrence: no one knew how the war would end.
6. A before and after When it ended in 1945: Europe was devastated. Two superpowers emerged: the United States and the Soviet Union. A new era began: the Cold War.
