It was the nineteenth century, and a gala ball was taking place within the magnificent Imperial Palace. The half-open doors led onto a spacious balcony, where the cool night air wafted in, and a majestic dais with a throne stretched before one's eyes. There, surrounded by dazzling splendor, sat the Emperor himself. Around the ruler of Russia, a vibrant, colorful whirlwind of elegant ladies danced, vainly attempting to attract his gaze, but he remained completely indifferent to their charm. His Majesty only occasionally glanced around the room with a heavy, absentminded gaze; his entire appearance betrayed a profound boredom, behind which a strange, barely perceptible nervous tension lurked.
