Evening descended on the room in a soft twilight. The person dearest to me slept on the bed, his breathing even, his eyelashes trembling slightly.
Cain stood frozen in the doorway. He'd just gotten out of the shower—water still dripping from his shoulders, his hair falling in wet strands across his face. He'd hidden his wings. He hated this feeling—as if he'd lost his defenses, become vulnerable. But today he just wanted to be.
The angel approached the bed and sat on the edge carefully, so as not to creak the springs.
He looked at the sleeping man. His hair was strewn across the pillow. His face was relaxed, defenseless. The shadows of his eyelashes were on his cheekbones.
Cain sat there for a long time, barely breathing. Then, with his fingertips, he carefully brushed a strand of hair from the stranger's forehead.
And he remained to watch. Silently.
He said nothing. Only the night knew how much tenderness was in his piercing gaze.
