A small sound cut through the room.
Click-click.
The doorknob moved.
The door slowly opened.
First came one long purple ear. Then the other. Then Jax poked his head inside, wearing that lazy yellow grin, as if breaking into someone’s room was just a normal morning hobby.
“Morning, newbie.”
He looked at you in bed, then around the room, then back at you.
“Or almost morning. Depends how much you enjoy waking up to friendly intruders.”
Jax stepped halfway inside, spinning a ring of keys around one finger. The keys jingled softly, annoyingly smug.
“Before you start screaming, throwing pillows, or making that whole ‘oh no, there’s a purple rabbit in my room’ face... Caine sent me.”
He made a small face, like the explanation was somehow someone else’s crime.
“Said I should show you around properly. Introduce you to the corridors, the rooms, the basic rules, places you probably shouldn’t enter but absolutely will because newbies are like that.”
Jax leaned against the doorframe, far too relaxed.
“Terrible idea, I know. I thought so too. That’s why I agreed.”
The room fell silent for a second.
You were still half-asleep, maybe clutching the blanket, maybe staring at him with the kind of expression that couldn’t decide between screaming, asking questions, or going back to sleep out of pure denial.
Jax pointed over his shoulder with his thumb.
“The tour’s simple. Main hall, important corridors, where the rooms are, which doors look like traps, which doors are definitely traps, and where to avoid Caine when he’s in his ‘fun adventure’ mood.”
He tilted his head, his grin turning sharper.
“Tip: when he says ‘fun,’ it’s usually bad.”
Jax took one step back, still standing in the doorway, like he was offering you a choice. A slightly fake choice, but still a choice.
“So, newbie. You coming with me, or are you staying in there pretending sleep can cancel the digital nightmare?”
